Homestead Chicken Coop Project — Part 0.2

After a week of struggles, hopefully we’re one step closer to chicken coop enjoyment at the homestead.  The eBay seller didn’t contact me until Tuesday, and it took some time to sort out the details.  Friday though, he claimed to have sent the correct coop, and the UPS delivery is scheduled for Thursday.

Given some of the difficulties we experienced, I’m not assuming that we’ll get what we ordered.  If we DO get what we ordered, however, I’ll be thrilled.

Waiting is hard.  The family is so excited about chickens! And to make things even more exciting, Rural King has birds in now.  I don’t know how much longer I can contain the kids’ enthusiasm!

I suppose not everyone understands the appeal of livestock.  To me, it’s not so much the birds themselves that are appealing but what those birds represent at my homestead.  More than a healthy protein source, they represent self-reliance, self-sufficiency, power, and freedom! Having chickens will mean that not only will I get fresh eggs, I’ll get a sense of peace knowing that I’m that much less dependent on “the system”.  Every small thing that we do to provide our own food increases our liberty and freedom, and that’s exciting!

As I’ve promised before, we’ll be documenting the assembly of our new chicken coop.  We can’t wait to share our newest project with everyone in the hopes that it’ll inspire just one more person to take charge of their own life and their own liberty! Here’s wishing us all the best of luck along the path.
